Job description
The Dorset Integrated Care Board (ICB) is developing its data science capabilities and this role is responsible for operational management and delivery of a data science function across Dorset Integrated Care System (ICS). The Head of Data Science is responsible for developing a team of expert analysts capable of using technical methods and infrastructures (e.g. statistics, data science, epidemiology, operational research, econometrics etc) to structure and answer specific strategic business questions. The Head of Data Science will be responsible for shaping and delivering the data science strategy for the whole of Dorset ICS, working with our partner trusts, councils, other public services, voluntary sector and academic institutions to ensure it is using data to drive better decisions, better care and better value for our population. This role provides the opportunity to be part of a change to the way we deliver health and care services in Dorset ICS; we need a greater focus on prevention, reducing health inequalities by providing equitable access, outcomes and experience, joining up pathways for the benefit of the users and ensuring care is delivered by the right person, in the right place at the right time. Population Health Management is key to this approach; we need to ensure we have the correct data sets, use all the data we have available well and adopt a data driven approach to planning and delivery of health and care. The post holder is responsible to the Deputy Director of Data and Analytics for the leadership of the Dorset Intelligence & Insight Service (DiiS) and its ongoing service to programmes and teams throughout the ICB and ICS. The postholder will work with other ICB Senior Managers to embed an evidence based, high quality decision culture by increasing data literacy and widening the use of data and analytics. As a senior leader, this role will be instrumental in developing data science tools, applications and analysis. You will contribute to and deliver the ICS data strategy and ensure the realisation of its benefits, continuing Dorset's transition from data-rich to actionable intelligence-driven, supported by cutting-edge data science and automation. The post holder will be required to deputise for the Deputy Director of Data and Analytics for their areas of responsibility at Board meetings, sub-committees, at organisational, system, southwest regional, and national meetings. Please note we reserve the right to extend the closing date or close this vacancy early if we receive sufficient applications for the role. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible For further information, please see full Job Description attached.
