The opportunity
This is an incredible opportunity for a highly skilled individual to join our dynamic Business Development and Marketing team as the Head of the Marketing & BD team. The position will be based at our Bath office, with possible occasional travel to our other locations or off-site as per client demands.
As the BD & Marketing Head, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing our Business Development & Marketing Plan, which is crucial for achieving our business growth strategies and objectives in line with sector plans and the overall strategic plan of our firm. In this dynamic role, you will present updates on BD&M performance and KPIs at regular intervals in management meetings. Additionally, you will collaborate with colleagues across the firm, operations, clients, external specialists, and other stakeholders as necessary.
The role will report to the BD and Marketing Director.

Key responsibilities
General duties include, but are not limited to:
- Help create and implement the Business Development & Marketing Plan that contributes to the achievement of business growth strategies and objectives as set out in Sector Plans.
- Oversee the development of compelling, high-quality marketing content.
- Champion and embed best practice business development methodologies, processes and systems across the organisation.
- Work across the team and the firm to improve the BD funnel and to improve the process.
- Work alongside the Marketing &BD team to identify where further resources are required as the business expands its service.
- Identify BD-related training and development needs and work with HR to provide solutions to help improve fee-earners in carrying out BD and Marketing opportunities.
- Implement processes for enabling continuous improvement of business development methods, processes and systems, ensuring opportunities for innovation are identified and colleagues are empowered to drive change.
- Ensure messages and learnings from client feedback are shared and acted upon to help increase opportunity conversion and client satisfaction.
- Ensure company BD/CRM IT platforms are fit for purpose, including leading the development of new systems as required, and that processes are established for recording up to date market intelligence and client data.
- Ensure that insight, thought leadership and marketing campaigns are properly targeted, driven and deliver return on investment.
- Continue to embed the firm’s culture and core values in the brand through the marketing channels.
- In conjunction with the Director – Partners, Sector and Subsector leads, coordinate and contribute to the development of strategies.
- Given the seniority of the role, appropriate professional behaviours and leadership competencies are to be role modelled at all times.
People management
- Lead the BD&M team, providing regular and timely coaching, support and feedback and encouraging development.
- Proactively address any employee-related concerns or issues in a timely way.
- Encourage knowledge sharing between Business Development & Marketing and partners.
Requirements
Essential
- Relevant bachelor’s degree / relevant professional qualification.
- Significant experience in business development/sales and marketing in a comparable professional environment is essential, including overseeing large, complex bid work. Partnership experience would be preferable.
- Extensive business development/sales and marketing knowledge and skills are essential, including a proven ability in developing and embedding strategic and tactical methodologies, systems and processes at an organisation level, acting as an agent for change.
- An understanding of monitoring and evaluation techniques is desirable.
- Proven people management skills with experience of mentoring, coaching, leading, developing and evaluating direct and indirect reports, peers and colleagues.
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to flex style according to need to deliver maximum impact.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, including the ability to interpret and make recommendations/decisions based on data.
- Sound problem solving and decision-making skills.

- Good IT skills, including knowledge of CRM systems.
Desirable
- Experience in the legal sector would be advantageous.
