Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
We are seeking a highly motivated principal assay scientist who will have key responsibilities for identification and development of state-of-the-art assays and high-throughput screens that will enable the discovery of transformative TCR therapeutics. In addition to leading projects evaluating novel and cutting-edge assay technologies, this lab-based role also involves development, optimisation, and validation of new biochemical/cell-based assays from scratch and liaising with automation expertise to establish high-throughput innovative biologics screens that benefit drug discovery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Identify innovative assay technologies that will benefit biologic discovery processes
• Lead innovative assay development projects that advance immunotherapy drug discovery workflows aligned with the company’s strategic priorities
• Independently identify, design, develop, and validate novel and state of the art biochemical and cell- based assays in 96/384 plate based or flow cytometry format for discovery of novel immunotherapeutics
• Analyse, interpret and effectively communicate plans and findings at departmental, project, and leadership team meetings, providing go/no go recommendations
• Contribute to defining assay capabilities and strategy for discovery for the next generation of immunotherapeutic molecules
• Liaise with automation expertise to contribute to defining high-throughput assay strategy and solutions for biologics screening
• Liaise with relevant stakeholders across the organisation
• Maintain a good understanding of state-of-the-art assay and high-throughput screening applications for biologics drug discovery across the industry
• Troubleshoot and identify creative, relevant solutions for complex assay and screening challenges
• Lead peer reviewed publications and contributions to patents
• Present at international conferences
• Lead and contribute to internal and external collaborations
• Provide technical training to team members where required
• Ensure own work, and work of peers, follow Good Laboratory Practice, and adhere to Immunocore health and safety policies
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential
• Significant experience in 96/384 well biochemical and cell assay development, validation, and analysis
• Experience in drug discovery
• Experience in flow cytometry
• Experience in leading a team or project(s) and successfully delivering objectives to time
• Familiar with the latest advances in the field of assays and high-throughput screening and their potential application
• Track record of identifying, evaluating, and making recommendations on new technologies to pursue
• Experience in implementing innovative solutions that benefit processes
• Track record of solving scientific problems creatively
• Track record of collaborating and contributing as a project team member
• Track record of building internal and external networks
• Demonstrates strong communication skills with the with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders of various levels of seniority
• Track record of effective decision making
Desirable
• Experience/knowledge of biologics discovery
• Experienced in high-throughput biologics screening and use of automation
• Experience in programming automation
• Experience in coding analyses scripts for managing large datasets
