Job description
What you will do in your working day
Tool Maker Job Responsibilities include:
- To assist in the tool splitting
- To assist in the disassembly and reassembly of tools
- To assist in the preparation of materials to be used in tooling
- To assist in the finishing of new tooling
- To assist in the maintenance of existing tooling
- To assist in the replacing component parts, dies, punches, springs, dowels, and pins.
- To assist in the tool regrinding
- Problem solving and tool improvement
- Always comply with health and safety regulations
- Ensure that good quality product is produced to a high standard
- All parts produced are correct to drawing
- Operate other machinery hand grinders, Mag drills, hand drills, etc.
- Required to use measuring equipment
- Identify tooling requirements
- Working to tight tolerances and deadlines
- To assist in completing all necessary paperwork to a required standard and deadlines
- To assist the Toolroom Manager with CAD drawing of engineering designs
- To help with Workshop and CNC machine maintance
- To assist in the Set, operate and program CNC Milling machines
The training you will be getting
Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Hereford (HR4 9SX):
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Toolmaker, Tool and Die Maintenance
- Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
Year 1 includes 26-42 weeks off the job training to cover practical and theory aspects.
Year 2 would include 1 day per week to complete EAL Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge
Years 2, 3 & 4 will be based in company developing skills in preparation for the end point assessment to gain your Toolmaker qualification.
You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment.
Additional training for functional skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed.
There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.
