Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Farnborough or Leyland
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced, technically competent and practically minded Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. Our Manufacturing Engineering department is a conduit between all our key functions, supporting the manufacturing plant to achieve its Safety, Quality, Cost & Delivery goals by providing solid Manufacturing Engineering capability to our production operations and key business projects.

Main Tasks / Responsibilities:
- You will be the technical authority for the manufacturing processes
- Provide DFM feedback to R&D using formal methods for NPD, including PFMEA
- Ensure the completion of Pre-Production Readiness / NPI tasks in line with KPIs
- Use Lean methodologies to identify and implement best practice process improvements across the production operations, which lead to lower cost, increased productivity & reduced cycle times, whilst maintaining design integrity and build quality
- Define, create & maintain SOPs, reflecting the best practice build improvements
- Conduct process trials, providing formal report-outs & recommendations
- Provide hands-on manufacturing support with process fault finding and support on production escalations, either electrical or mechanical (ideally both)
- Support Production Change Control (Spec Amends, MODs, ECNs, Deviations, etc)
- Support & lead complex problem-solving initiatives using A3/8D/LSS methodologies
- Assess and ensure all tooling, hand tools, handling equipment, patterns, jigs, gauges & measuring devices are available in readiness for production
- Facility Layouts - Production Lines / Workstations – Create & maintain using CAD packages – Current & Future State Layouts
- Lead & Support NCI Projects – From business case justifications to project signoffs
- Determine any new material and process information required in line with current and future legislative and environmental requirements.
- Use MSDS’s to create usage plans, supporting the COSHH assessment process
- Maintain an overall awareness of innovation & new technologies relevant to the bus industry
What you will bring:
- Qualified to degree level in Engineering (or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline)
- Strong mechanical or electrical (ideally both), manufacturing engineering technical competency
- Qualified in Lean Six Sigma to a Green Belt level (or other formal process improvement experience), with experience of working with large amounts of data
- Experienced within a similar role, with a demonstrable record of success – if you have fabrication experience, even better!
- Ideally your work experience will be gained in the Automotive industry, however we would also welcome those from other similarly complex, labour intensive engineering or manufacturing environments.
- You will be excited to lead and implement change using cross-functional teamwork
- Experience with CAD packages (Solid Edge / Teamcenter / AutoCAD LT) & engineering drawings would be advantageous
- You will have effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead both direct and in-direct teams as well as taking a hands-on approach to all areas of accountability. Furthermore, you will have the ability to influence and modify behaviours, using a collaborative problem-solving approach.
- You will be self-motivated, with excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise and re-prioritise in line with changing business needs.
- Finally, you will be highly IT literate, being a competent user of Microsoft Office Excel, PowerPoint & Word, as well as Business Intelligence / Quality Management Systems / MRP/ERP systems
