Stadler Rail Service UK Limited (SRS UK) is a subsidiary of Stadler. SRS UK provides a train maintenance service for a growing number of clients in the UK. In the next few years over 150 new Stadler trains will be joining the UK Rail Network which signifies the start of an exciting future for Stadler in the UK. Our current depot locations are in Cardiff, Glasgow, Liverpool, Newcastle and Norwich offering a wide scope of opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in the UK Rail Industry.

We are looking to recruit a Deputy MSA Site Manager. Working within the Kirkdale Depot you will report to the MSA Site Manager to support with mentoring of personnel and technical management, planning and scheduling. You will also undertake commissioning activities from functional testing through to static and dynamic commissioning of complete rail vehicles. Liaise on technical queries from colleagues and practical questions from our Clients, producing relevant feedback and high-quality reports for both technical and non-technical aspects of the role.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the electronic, electrical, and electromechanical, utilising software tools for fault finding and root cause analysis of components in rail vehicles, including doors, air conditioning systems, traction equipment, passenger information systems, train protection systems, and vehicle control technology.
• Oversee commissioning activities of functional testing, from testing wiring (continuity testing, insulation, and voltage tests) to conducting static and dynamic commissioning of complete rail vehicles.
• Ensure accurate and thorough logging of test and measurement results.
• Gain proficiency in preparing and accompanying test drives on both own site and the public rail network at our client's site to obtain approval for design requirements and rail vehicles.
• Develop expertise in providing operational support, troubleshooting, and implementing warranty work at customer's sites to provide high rail vehicle availability.
• Across the business support all condition monitoring and manually monitored systems on the train and its interfaces, ensuring continuous monitoring of performance and safety.
• Gain in-depth knowledge of uploading and updating software for all applicable sub-systems, adhering to established procedures to maintain proper configuration and control.
• Develop excellent report writing skills for documenting all test and commissioning activities and other defects at both system and component level utilising the business Maintenance Management System (SRMS) and general report writing. Maintain accuracy and clarity in technical, non-technical, and production-related reports.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to health and safety practices, ensuring a tidy workplace and proper disposal of substances with a high environmental impact.
• Exhibit strong leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and mentor team members within the production team, promoting knowledge transfer and fostering a collaborative work environment.
• Support with the technical and personnel management of a team.
• Provide assistance and technical feedback in support of any technical incidents, being able to answer technical questions from colleagues and handle practical questions by the Client.
• Identify and assess risks within the scope of work and provide viable options for mitigation or resolution while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
• Collaborate with colleagues and managers to inform, negotiate and persuade the proposals and implementation of improved systems and work processes across the business.

What are we looking for?

• Served a recognised apprenticeship to minimum City and Guilds/ BTEC level with Mechanical / Electrical / electronic bias
and NVQ level 5 or to a proven similar standard
• Extensive professional engineering, testing and commissioning experience in (preferably in rolling stock) maintenance
• Knowledge and experience in modern technical systems and fault finding techniques and the interaction between these,
conducting and leading complex root cause investigations and reading electrical / mechanical schematics competently
• Strong knowledge, experience and understanding of risk and safety in the workplace from a production perspective
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems
• Be able to pass and maintain all competencies required for the role
• Willingness for medium assignments in Switzerland
• Must demonstrate commitment to maintaining professional knowledge and ensure the depth of their specialist knowledge
is maintained
• Can demonstrate a customer driven attitude focused on quality
• Ability to work as part of a team, going above and beyond where required
• Willingness to support and guide colleagues
• Base understanding of cost implications
• Demonstrate a passion for continual improvement, self-improvement, system & process improvements, operational
excellence and end user experience
• Good level of IT skill including Microsoft packages

Desirable:
• Qualification or equivalent experience in a technical and managerial environment
• Knowledge of German language would be beneficial
