The successful candidate(s) will offer high quality day to day care of patients and deliver a first class clinical service to include outpatient/diagnostic clinics, day case theatre procedures, elective theatre activity, inpatient care as required and support for on call work with acute Urological admissions. The post has no formal ward duties outside of the on call commitment but there will be a regular weekly requirement to support ward rounds or board rounds. There may be exciting opportunities to support the initiation of our Robotic Surgery program through tableside assistance with training as required. The post holder(s) will participate in an on call commitment at middle grade level which will be resident in hours and non-resident out of hours. On-call weekend duties will encompass general support and supervision of daily ward rounds including note keeping, ordering investigations, history taking and examination and emergency surgical procedures. During on call shifts, elective clinical commitments are cleared to allow for full participation in dealing with Urological emergencies. The on-call frequency may change with the expansion of middle grade staff. There is an expectation that a ward round/board is undertaken each day. The post holder(s) will have a continuing responsibility for the care of the patients in their charge. This will include responsibility for undertaking the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and wider administration for the department. Rota frequency is anticipated to be 1 in 8 subject to change dependent on the current workforce. Currently 1 in 7. The Trust may consider evening working (e.g. three session theatre days) as scheduled activity and may also wish to reach agreement with the individual about the possibility of future scheduling of routine work on a Saturday with other colleagues in the Urology Department. The post holder will undertake professional supervision and management of the junior medical staff. There are formal opportunities for teaching roles if desired. The successful candidate will support the Directorate to ensure efficiency in patient care in keeping with the Trust values and Signature Behaviours.
