Planning Officer
East Lancashire
£25,878 - £28,371 per annum
Full-time - hybrid


Company Overview:
Carrington West are pleased to be working with a client seeking a Planning Officer to join our team and contribute to the efficient delivery of the Council's Development Management Service.


Qualifications:
·A degree in Town Planning or an equivalent field, or currently studying towards such a related qualification, would be desirable.
·Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (MRTPI) or immediate eligibility for membership is an advantage.


Key Responsibilities:
·Validate planning applications, conduct site inspections, and assess and make recommendations on various planning applications.
·Handle planning and related appeals through written procedures, prepare evidence for hearings and formal inquiries, and present applications to Committees as required.
·Address general planning inquiries and provide polite, helpful, and business-like assistance to members of the public, applicants, developers, and other stakeholders.
·Interpret and apply relevant regulations, including the Town and Country (General Permitted Development) Order and (Use Classes) Order.


Person Specification:
·Previous experience in a development management environment, dealing with planning applications and appeals in either the public or private sector.
·Proficiency in computer-based systems, including Microsoft Office and planning record systems.
·Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers both in person and through various communication channels.
·Ability to work collaboratively in a team and contribute to service improvements.
·Knowledge of current national and local planning policies and enforcement procedures.
·Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
·Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
·Ability to manage workload effectively, make decisions within established guidelines, and demonstrate a commitment to customer service and personal development.
·A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
·Willingness to occasionally work outside normal office hours.
