FTE Salary: Up to £35,349.00 (Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience)
Actual Salary: £24,839.84
Contract Type: Fixed Term Maternity Cover from February 2024- February 2025
Working Hours: 26 hours per week

Foundation Studies at SGS College has an excellent reputation for delivering an outstanding curriculum of Life Skills and Employability to students who may have need more time to acquire the skills they need for independent living and employment.
To maintain the growth of provision within our department and to support various new projects, we are looking for a self-motivated individual who can confidently teach Entry to Level One across various subject areas including Employability, Life Skills and Vocational Studies.
Our learners need innovative and creative teaching methods to encourage and engage learning. If you are passionate about teaching and learning, are able to translate this to your students using a range of effective strategies, you will enjoy being part of a committed team. You should feel confident working with challenging behaviours, Special Educational Needs and disability and SEMH.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of the Learning Area Manager, and working with the other tutors in Department, to plan and deliver a curriculum to include Life skills, social skills, vocational studies, employability, maths and English.
- Coach, assist and support learners undertaking employability skills and qualifications within a full-time study programme via blended learning where necessary, to achieve their qualification successfully and within a reasonable time frame. This will require flexibility to deal with varying abilities within groups, and the sensitivity to identify particular learning requirements.
- To maintain accurate records of learner’s baseline assessment, progress, tracking and achievement.
- To communicate progress and provide feedback to the Learning Area Manager. This will involve regular and open discussion, advising on learner progress, any issues relating to the programme.
- To undertake an annual teaching workload of contact hours for category ‘A’ duties of 828 maximum to 761 minimum (pro rata for part-time) as detailed in the College workload agreement.
- Liaise with other tutors and support teams to ensure that learners achieve their qualifications by communicating progress, developments or issues and requirements that may arise, thus allowing timely intervention, support, adaptation or corrective action and ultimately completion.
- Network with colleagues to promote best practice across the sector
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent or have substantial relevant SEND experience.
- Teaching qualification or willing to be working towards - You will be required to obtain a Stage 3 full professional qualification (PGCE in post-16 education or equivalent) within 2-4 years of commencing lecturing duties within the College
- GCSE Maths and English grade C or above or Level 2 equivalent
- Experience working with entry to level 1 learners with SEND and SEMH
- Qualifications/CPD related to working with learners with learning disabilities
- Experience of working in Further Education or schools supporting learners with learning disabilities
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
- Experience of using Office software packages, email and web browsers
