This role is offered on a 3-week rotating daytime only shift pattern including one weekend in three. Average 38 hours per week inside the laboratory operating hours of 0700-1700. (W1 – M, Tu, F, Sa, Su; W2 – M, W, Th, F; W3 – M, Tu, W, Th, F)

The Microbiology Division East Grinstead site is the sole manufacturer of SensititreTM AST plates. These are 96 well microtitre plates containing dried antimicrobial agents in various dilutions; used for identification and susceptibility testing of clinical bacterial isolates. Results may be read manually or automatically using the associated SensititreTM instrumentation range.

The production laboratory team is responsible for all technical manufacturing processes within this operation, working in a medical device level laboratory and associated aseptic dispensing area to prepare and supervise production batches.

Position Summary :

You will work within the production laboratory and aseptic dispensing room to produce SensititreTM antimicrobic susceptibility plates. You will ensure H&S and quality standards are met at all times. Ensuring compliance with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice); and ensure our SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) are followed!

Responsibilities:

• Preparation of antimicrobic solutions in accordance with relevant SOPs and in line with production paperwork - weighing, dissolution and dilution
• Set-up and monitoring of production dispensing pumps, to enable on time and quality production output - pouring, priming and weight checks
• Manufacture of various vital ancillary solutions – ID media, buffers and excipients
• Compliance checks of laboratory equipment and instrumentation – pipettes, balances and extractors
• Maintain and supervise raw material stock levels – consumables, intermediates and equipment
• Support the laboratory by washing and autoclaving equipment – pumps, glassware and other items
• Utilise computer software to process information – SAP ERP, Microsoft Office and tailored program
  Further duties and responsibilities as required by the business and within the ability of the post holder.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

• Ideally educated to A-level standard in a scientific subject
• Capable of following standard operating procedures and H&S guidelines
• Good collaboration and communication skills
• Able prioritise tasks under own initiative
• Attention to detail when following procedures and keeping manual records
• Ability to perform complex manual tasks with dexterity
• Digital literacy would be beneficial
• Laboratory experience is an advantage
• Exposure to a fast-paced high efficiency manufacturing type environment would be valuable
