Job description
Our client, First Safety Construction, are seeking a full time Commercial Manager
Established in 2008, First Safety Construction Limited is an SME based in Aldermaston, Berkshire, specialising in groundworks, civil engineering, and scaffolding.
They hold several long-standing government contracts as well as privately commissioned and tendered-for work.
Due to retirement, they require an experienced and qualified Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join their team to lead on pricing, deliver against new and existing contracts, maintain relationships with existing clients and actively seek out potential new clients or opportunities.

- Full time based on a 9-day fortnight at Aldermaston, Berkshire (every other Friday is non-working)
- PAYE, negotiable salary and benefits depending on experience and credentials

- Generous holiday allowance, 23 days + bank holidays + non-working Fridays (57 days in total)
- Due to the nature of their government contracts, it is an occupational requirement that successful candidates will need security clearance. Ideally candidates must be able to pass and maintain Developed Vetting (DV)

Person Specification
- Candidates must have a least five years significant work experience in a similar role – surveying / estimating functions of a groundworks / civil engineering company, with relevant professional qualifications (e.g. MRICS) or equivalent.
- Candidates must be able to work independently and have a proven track record in both estimating and surveying.
- Candidates must be able to prepare accurate and clear bills of quantities, with good knowledge of the SMM and civils method.
- Candidates must be able to review and analyse ITT’s, construction drawings, input value engineering, value variations, and agree final accounts.
- Candidates should understand different contract types in the construction sector and be able to negotiate contract details with input from the Company Directors.
- Candidates must have excellent people skills and be able to work as part of their team within the organisation.
- Candidates should have proven project management experience, working with clients to their specification and requirements.
- Candidates would benefit from experience on scaffold pricing and valuing variations.
- Candidates must have excellent written and spoken English, strong IT skills and a full UK driving licence.
