You will be based at a power Station which provides a synchronous compensation service to National Grid. The Site Engineer role involves operating the facility to contractual and market requirements whilst abiding to site procedures and safety rules, maintaining the facility as part of a small team, and providing Senior Authorised Person support up to 400kv.
Reporting directly to the Station Manager, the Site Engineer is responsible for the operational activities at the power station whilst on shift, ensuring the business meets availability, reliability, efficiency, generation and cost targets, safely and within strict environmental limits. The facility is operated by 5 shift engineers operating a five shift cycle. The Site Engineer works alone while on shift and operates the facility on a predominantly lone man basis. - Ensuring the site achieves and maintains ISO standards
- Liason with the required agencies to ensure we comply with current legislation
- Managing the sites demolition responsibilities for safety and environmental
- Liaising with contractors and suppliers as required
- Assisting the Station Manager in fulfilling their duties
- Audits for Safe operations and adherance to safe systems of work
- ISO accreditation achievement
- Liaison with contractors and suppliers
- Planned/unplanned maintenance
- The position involves operating the facility while operating within a shift system
- Lone man working at the facility is the norm
- There are no permanent day work positions in this role
- It is expected that a shift engineer will be authorised for mechanical, low voltage and become a Senior Authorised Person to 400kv within six months of hire
- The Shift Engineer has the responsibility to operate the facility within site rules and to contractual requirements
- The Shift Engineer has the responsibility to liaise with relevant contractors or suppliers. This includes ordering/receiving/recording, spares/fuel/support services as required.
- The Shift Engineer will work while being part of small team assisting in planned and unplanned maintenance in all areas of the facility
- This position also entails some travel in order to comply with the facilities training requirements, or attendance at corporate group meetings
- To attend plant meetings or breakdowns outside of normal working hours
- Provide cover support within the shift roster
What you\'ll need to succeed
- A strong electrical background with experience of High Voltage operations (6.6kv to 400kv)
- Large industrial gas turbines
- Permit to work systems
- HV switching and isolation
- Proven experience and knowledge of power plant operation and energy trading
- Knowledge of commercial operations within power markets
- Knowledge of power plant engineering concepts
- Experience of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment management systems, safety rules and associated legislation
- Able to operate in a flexible team orientated environment
- Ability to work alone and be proactive in all areas with minimal supervision
- Practical mechanical and electrical maintenance skills
- HNC or equivalent in a related discipline
