• The Health and Safety officer supports the Senior Health & Safety (H&S) Officer in providing advice and support to the programmes of work and management systems that comply with HSW standards and policies across WSCC.

• You’ll be working under the broad direction of a Senior H&S Officer and will be expected to exercise independent judgement and initiative in most day to day situations, making policy interpretations and practice decisions, and presenting a credible image to clients as a knowledgeable and professional H&S Officer.

• You’ll be the technical expert within a specific area of HSW, e.g. advising schools on managing medication. You will have previous experience of providing an effective HSW service with the relevant specialism, contributing to policy and procedural improvements and providing a high level of advice and guidance.

• You’ll be able to demonstrate good theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge of the interpretation and application of HSW, fire and other associated legislation. You’ll have experience of developing systems and procedures to improve employee HSW in a large organisation, with diverse workplaces and multiple HSW risks, issues and environments, and the HSW of non-employees affected by another employer. You’ll be adept at building effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
