About Our Client
Our client are a world leading general freight haulage and distribution business with 47 years experience in the import and export services sector. The company has recently grown to employ 390 HGV & LGV vehicles who serve a 24/7 european and groupage road freight transport network. With over 8,000 loads on a typical day to day basis - this is an extremely fast-paced transport operation and would suit those looking to grow and advance a career in the sector. Future growth is also planned for the site, thus resulting in high levels of opportunities moving into 2024 and onwards!
Job Description
As a Container Freight Planner you will report into the Freight Manager and Road Freight Manager on a daily basis. You will be based at the Walsall area of Birmingham and have the following areas of responsibility. This role will primarily be responsible for planning, in a timely manner transport requirements on a day 1 / day 2 basis, so that the team meet the required plan, logistics service and cost performance targets.
- Management of the transport planning of 50+ HGV & LGV Vehicles - moving intermodal container freight across the country.
- Populate and maintain scheduling and booking and tracker systems.
- Using a mix of automated and manual tools undertake transport planning and daily execution / performance tracking of load collections.
- Share accurate information with own drivers and service providers to enable effective operations.
- Identify lane / loads requirements, risk and risk mitigations for own and third party providers.
- Work with internal stakeholders to utilise own fleet and third party to obtain the optimal cost
The Successful Applicant
The successful Container Freight Planner will be commutable to the Walsall area of Birmingham. and have the following background:
- Either a Freight or Import/Export or Transport background with transport container planning experience.
- Intermodal freight experience would be advantageous.
- Ideally 2+ years transport experience.
- Ideally container freight experience.
- Experience in general haulage would be advantageous.
- Experience in managing drivers & planning routes.
- Strong internal and external customer service skill.
