Infrastructure Automation Engineer Placement 

Opportunity (10 Months) 

Location: Chesterfield, S41 8NE

Salary: £22,500 per annum 

Hours: 35 hours per week

Position Overview: 

As an Infrastructure Automation Engineer on placement, you will be an integral part of our team, collaborating with technical subject matter experts and industry professionals to research, plan, and implement automation solutions. This placement is designed to provide hands-on experience, foster personal and professional development, and contribute to the establishment of a DevOps culture within our technical operations teams. This is a unique opportunity to work on a significant project focusing on automation, with a specific emphasis on customer deployment projects and in-service configuration changes. You will be mentored throughout the placement to ensure that you are provided with the training and resources needed to be productive, and that you are given opportunities for personal development and social engagement. You will be expected to work in an office environment at least 2 days per week, usually at Proact’s Chesterfield site but also from time to time at our Manchester site.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Conduct research on the architecture and capabilities of automation technologies (in particular, Ansible), in relation to enterprise IT infrastructure systems, focussing on those most heavily used within Proact.
• Collaborate with technical subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify and agree the most valuable automation capabilities to develop, in the context of projects and in-service configuration changes.
• Produce a comprehensive plan for the development, implementation and integration of those automation capabilities.
• Develop, test and release the prioritised automation capabilities, following standards for documentation, source control and release management.
• Provide training to relevant staff involved in customer-facing processes to ensure successful adoption.
• Provide regular progress reports to your mentor, line manager and project stakeholders.
Applicant Profile
• Minimum 2 years completed of an IT-related degree.
• Good high-level understanding of core IT infrastructure components and concepts, including networks, storage, servers and backup.
• Demonstrable experience with development and/or scripting languages, in particular Python and PowerShell.
• Demonstrable experience of utilising APIs in code.
