Advanced Teaching Assistant
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Start Date: Immediately
Salary: £90 – £105 per day
Contract: Full-Time
GSL Education is seeking an Advanced Teaching Assistant for a Special Educational Needs School in Scarborough, for an immediate start. This is a full-time position, working at an Academy for children with a range of Special Needs and Disabilities. You will be supporting the school’s aim to prepare their students for the challenges of the 21st Century.
About the School: - A special needs school for pupils aged 2-16 with a wide range of needs.
- This includes moderate or severe learning difficulties, speech, language and communication needs, autism, social, emotional, and mental health needs, and some medical difficulties.

- The Academy’s staff team consists of staff with a range of expertise from their highly skilled teachers, instructors and teaching assistants who are all committed to meeting the needs of all the pupils in their care.
About the role of an Advanced Teaching Assistant: - Support the delivery of planned lessons and activities, with specifically identified students.
- Lead small groups of children to enhance educational learning through play-based learning and activities.
- Prepare classroom materials and learning areas and undertake minor clerical duties e.g. photocopying and displaying pupil’s work.
- Monitor children’s development and feedback to the class teacher, SENCO, parents/carers, and other professionals.
- Implement behaviour management strategies and policies, in-line with the class teacher and senior leaders.
- Support students in their social and emotional wellbeing in implementing relevant social, health, and physical programmes, including for those with health, social and physical needs.
Advanced Teaching Assistant Requirements: - Have a Level 3 or higher Teaching Assistant certificate.
- Have at least 6 months experience working in a special educational needs school or alternative provision.
- Good understanding of children and young people’s development and learning processes.
- The ability to confidently lead pre-planned lessons and activities.
- Knowledge of additional needs such as autism, learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs and multi-sensory impairment.
