Job description
Our client is one of the largest growers of protected salad crops in the UK. Due to a recent re-structure there is now a new opportunity for Senior Operations Manager to based based at their 14ha site in Selby, Yorkshire.
Key elements of the role :
- To manage the team to deliver quality product, on time and to specification into the packhouse.
- Lead by example and develop the team to deliver improved results through better ways of working, efficiencies and teamwork.
- To coach and develop the site team to operate as one cohesive, focused team.
- To ensure all work quality standards comply with company policy and all staff are managed to achieve maximum performance.
- To ensure all auditing processes are carried out in line with audit procedures and to support the Growers in maximising yield.
- Manage the engineering team to deliver PPM, reactive maintenance and adhoc tasks efficiently, as per H&S standards and within budget.
- Ensure the site delivers all SHE policies and procedures.
- Work with Director of Growing to identify operational improvements and support the wider business goals.
- Manage the site P&L in conjunction with the senior grower, to deliver on budgets.
Operations
- Liaise daily with commercial and technical departments
- Agree the daily harvest, order and production plans with Supply Chain
- Plan labour requirements in conjunction with the Director of Growing from annual budget to weekly management of the team
- Liaise closely with the Finance team in terms of forecast and actual spend across labour, maintenance, indirect and other costs
- Always maximise productivity levels, resulting in the maximum marketable yield from all crops.
People
- Organise the staff rota, managing holidays, absence and holiday accrual in a consistent way that provides the operation with the staff required.
- Report, manage and implement required actions based on any deviances to the above
- Analyse motivational techniques on site and focus on best practise for overall site benefit.
- Coach and develop Managers and Team leaders ensuring attention to detail and “Doing it right first time mentality“ in conjunction with a robust appraisal system.
Knowledge & Skills
• Experience of managing and developing site teams.
• Experience of coaching.
• Ability to prioritise.
• Ability to drive for results through the team at pace.
• Good knowledge of lean techniques.
• Strong communication skills and staff management.
• Understanding of harvesting requirements.
