Lancaster and Morecambe Older Adult Community Mental Health Services

An interesting and varied opportunity for 0.6 WTE (22.5 hours weekly) has become available for a dynamic band 4 Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor (OT TI) to work primarily in the Lancaster and Morecambe Rapid Intervention and Treatment Team (RITT) function. The team is part of the wider Older Adult Community Mental Health Team supporting those residing in the Lancaster and Morecambe catchment areas.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about the role and its development, and be committed to providing excellent occupational therapy services to the local older adult population.

Ideally, applicants should have an understanding of the remit occupational therapy, experience of working with older adults with mental health needs, and the ability to deliver and support OT specific treatment plans and interventions. The role will be under the direction and supervision of a qualified occupational therapist. Applicants should also have excellent communication skills and a willingness to actively participate and contribute to wider professional and service improvements.

The core functions of the service are: The Community Mental Health Team, Memory Assessment Service, Home Treatment and Care Home Liaison. The post holder will be expected support 7-day service cover and required to work a flexible shift pattern within the hours of 8am – 8pm.

 

Main duties of the job

To work as a Technical Instructor, predominantly in a community setting, including home visits.

The post holder will carry out assigned tasks involving direct patient care, patient groups, individual therapeutic interventions and implementation of programmes of care. There will be close liaison and co-operation with other members of the team Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Consultants, Nurses, Administration Staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will work regularly with indirect supervision planning, and managing a delegated caseload. 

The role will involve working within a MDT to support older adult mental health service users in the community to remain at home and prevent hospital admission.  Please see the job description for further details about the role and expectations.

In addition, the post holder will be expected to undertake a range of other generic duties to support the overall team function and be responsive to the needs of patients, their family and carers
