Smiths Hire are the Northwest’s Largest Independent Equipment Hire Company with 16 Hire It Centres located across the Region. Currently in a period of expansion across the business, we have a fantastic opportunity for a Transport Planner for our Preston Depot.
We’re currently in a period of expansion across the business, and we have a fantastic opportunity for a driven and enthusiastic Transport Planner for our busy Preston Depot.
The role is to support the Depot and Deputy Manager on the day-to-day management and smooth running of the depot’s vehicles, deliveries and drivers.
As a Transport Planner your responsibilities will be:
- Oversea 4 vehicles and the organisation of drivers and deliveries.
- Forward planning is essential and the following days scheduling and construction needs to begin the day before.
- Stock availability must be maintained at all times to minimise delays and/or trips.
- Help maintain records and log of Driver tacho card downloads.
- Vehicles must be loaded at the end of each day. Drivers and depots must understand that they must complete their driver trips and be loaded for the next day before leaving at the end of the day regardless of time.
- Drivers should leave before 8am if possible and be flexible with start times to accommodate any customer demands.
- Copy the routes made by the Transport Planner Application to driver apps.
- Utilise the mapping feature of the trip to check for efficiencies geographically.
- Deal with the sales desk when request are being put through for deliveries / collection.
- Utilise the Unassigned / Assigned daily report to visually link nearby jobs and pass over or take on other depots jobs that are nearby to each other.
- Work with our vehicle admin and management to make sure vehicle 10 weekly and any repairs are dealt with promptly.
- Keeping in contact with Customers to inform them of delayed delivery / collection.
- Awareness of drivers returning to depot – what’s next – get stock out and prepped.
- Also answering calls from customers and processing orders on the system.
Working hours : Monday to Friday: 08:00am – 17:00pm and Saturday: 08:00am to 12:00pm on a rotational basis.
