Job description
University Hospitals Dorset are looking for a full time Pharmacy Quality Assurance Technician based across Bournemouth and Poole Hospital.
Act as specialist technician for Quality Assurance. To support the QA Lead Pharmacist to deliver the quality assurance functions within the pharmacy aseptic preparation units at Poole and Bournemouth Hospital and manage the Quality Management Systems across the whole of both pharmacy departments. This job will require the successful applicant to work independently within clearly defined policies and relevant regulations with work being managed rather than supervised.
To be the departmental Quality Assurance technician and support the Lead Pharmacist Quality Assurance in fulfilling the following duties: Ensuring that policies, SOPs and working practices are reviewed regularly, amended where required and changes implemented effectively. Support the Lead Pharmacist QA in developing, updating, rolling out and managing Q:Pulse with the aim of introducing full functionality in all areas. Supporting development and use of the Quality Management System (QMS) in UHD technical services. This will include a robust system to report, investigate and escalate errors, deviations, CAPA reports and complaints; change control to ensure impact of any actual or planned change is managed appropriately to mitigate risk; review of the environmental monitoring programme and review of the facility sanitisation programme alongside all measures to reduce risk from microbiological and particulate contamination.

• Participate in the process for authorising all raw materials, unlicensed and pre-packed medicines and ‘specials’ received by UHD pharmacy (except clinical trial materials) in accordance with national guidelines and local procedures to ensure the products are fit for use by patients and to authorise the products for use; Ensuring that external suppliers of products and services to the department are validated.
• Support aseptic unit processes for management of defective products/medicines in liaison with Regional Quality Control services and relevant national agencies as appropriate.
• Support input and maintenance of electronic databases and paper-based record systems for environmental monitoring results within the department.
• Supporting validation of any new computerised systems introduced within aseptic services.
• Supporting action to be taken in the event of temperature excursions of stock held by the pharmacy aseptic units.
• Liaising with Microbiology to manage the incubation and reading of all settle and contact plates and broth tests used in the environmental monitoring programme within Aseptic Services, monitoring results and highlighting any areas of concern with the Accountable Pharmacist
• Ensure collection of tap water samples and sink swabs for processing; recording of results and highlighting any areas of concern with the Accountable Pharmacist.
• Undertaking internal audit inspections in aseptic services and document on appropriate systems
• Maintain database of external suppliers of products and services to aseptic services to demonstrate they are validated.
• To be a member of the Pharmacy Aseptic Quality Group.
• To keep abreast of all standards and guidelines relevant to quality assurance of technical services.
