Housing Triage Officer

 2 Year Fixed Term Contract

The purpose of the role is to be the first point of contact for households in the borough who are threatened with homelessness, providing advice, support and signposting and to triage households who may require a full homelessness assessment.. The successful candidate will have good customer service skills, the ability to communicate effectively and will be able to prioritise their workload. Knowledge and experience of working in homelessness is not essential as full training will be provided. This is an exciting opportunity to begin a career in this sector.

Key Duties, Responsibilities & Accountabilities: - 

Provide a triage service via telephone, email and face to face using our online case management system to households who have a housing need and to households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness

Provide initial housing advice to households and details of suitable housing options in the private and public sector, including information on homelessness prevention

Respond to all of the referrals that the Council receives under the Duty to Refer, making initial inquiries and triaging as appropriate

Provide effective operational and administration support within the Housing Specialist and Case Teams, including telephone calls to applicants to gather information, making third party enquiries, writing letters, taking notes, responding to emails and updating applicant records

To assist with admin functions

This is an office based role.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience: - 

The successful candidate will need to have experience of working within homelessness and with vulnerable people

An understanding of the Homeless Reduction Act and experience in triaging

Good IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Good communication and people skills.

Please note salary offers are usually made at the lower grade, allowing for progression.
