Our first home, KYN BICKLEY, opened in February 2023. KYN BICKLEY is an 86-bedroom home offering each resident an elegant and comfortable bedroom, communal areas for dining and reclining; and inviting outdoor terraces overlooking landscaped gardens bordered by woodland. We have a further three care homes in development in London.
About the opportunity:
As a Dementia Care Manager you will be an essential part of the clinical team, ensuring that our residents’ medical, physical, social, and emotional needs are met.
Relationship-centred dementia care:
- Management of, and responsibility for, the overall operation of the dementia community in accordance with CQC regulations, evidence-based practice in dementia care, and KYN policies and procedures, from initial assessment onwards
- Promotion of high standards of relationship centred dementia care at all times
- Acting as an ambassador for the KYN dementia strategy within the home, developing the service in line with the strategy objectives
- Working alongside nursing and care teams to ensure Individual care plans are person centred and of high quality, and that all documentation meets KYN & regulatory standards.
- Taking ownership of team levels and ensuring the resources are in place to deliver quality dementia care and meet residents’ needs.
- Liaising and building relationships with external professionals
- Championing relatives’ involvement in all aspects of care and care planning, including life story work, John’s Campaign, and provision of family meetings
- Obtaining feedback from residents about the service
- Working in partnership with the home’s Life Enrichment team to ensure that an appropriate programme of activities, and opportunities for meaningful occupation are in place
- Liaising with the Head of Dementia through regular meetings to ensure on-going understanding of key objectives relating to the KYN dementia strategy
- Working in partnership with the Head of Dementia to develop high quality relationship centred dementia care
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensuring the dementia community meets and exceeds all national minimum standards and KYN standards, reporting issues and concerns to the Home manager, and acting on any areas identified as requiring improvement by KYN’s quality and compliance tool, and Head of Dementia.
- Auditing care, and care plans, and leading on action plans to improve the dementia services
- Striving to achieve an outstanding CQC rating
People Management:
- Taking ownership of and leading on induction training for new team members.
- Delivering KYN’s specific relationship-centred dementia care induction.
- Ensuring team members’ completion of KYN’s dementia learning modules
- Planning in regular opportunities to work alongside the care team on shifts to provide support and coaching (day and night)
- Ensuring that all dementia community team members complete mandatory training within specified time-scales.
- Managing the performance of team members within the dementia community and ensuring regular reviews and appraisals take place.
About you:
- Has achieved, or is willing to work towards qualifications NVQ 4 or 5 / QCF 5 in Health and Social care
- A minimum level 3 qualification in dementia care or experience & Knowledge of evidence- based practice in dementia care with at least 4 years’ experience in long term care of people living with dementia.
- A detailed knowledge of care plans and advanced care planning.
- Evidence of supervisory and management experience.
- Thorough working knowledge of safeguarding legislation, DoLS, and management of referrals.
- Thorough working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, and experience of carrying out mental capacity assessments.
- Thorough working knowledge of care standards aligned to national regulation and experience of the CQC registration & inspection process (CIW and RISCA regulations in Wales if appropriate)
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures, including legislation
- Theoretical knowledge and practical experience of implementing psychosocial interventions for people living with dementia
- Theoretical knowledge and practical experience of supporting people living with dementia who express needs through behaviour
- Evidence of CPD in relation to dementia care
- Experience of managing a quality framework within a care setting
- Ability to facilitate workshops and experience of training others
- Ability to work collaboratively with other departments at Hallmark outside of the care home environment
- Can lead and motivate team members and inspire professionalism
- Can resolve complaints and investigate incidents effectively and efficiently
- Patient with the ability to deal with difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
- Excellent attention to detail and an ability to anticipate problems before they arise
