About Our Client
ASCL is a leading trade union representing more than 25,000 school and college leaders across the UK. An exciting opportunity has arisen through which the Association is seeking an in-house Senior Solicitor to be responsible for the management and operation of the Association's in house legal department.
Job Description
We are seeking to appoint an experienced qualified employment solicitor, with leadership and management experience, looking for a unique opportunity to work in-house leading a dynamic and vibrant team, based at ASCL HQ in Leicester, with remote working available.
This is an excellent opportunity to join ASCL's experienced legal department. Leading a team of solicitors, the successful candidate will report directly to ASCL's Director of Member Support. The legal department is responsible for providing advice and representation for the organisation and its members, who are senior leaders within the education sector.
Job Description: If successful, you will experience a range of work including (but not limited to):
- managing the legal team to ensure provision of advice and services to ASCL's members at the highest level;
- providing internal advice to ASCL staff and officers;
- providing legal advice and support to members of the Association involved in internal dispute with their employers;
- employment tribunal litigation;
- delivering training and legal updates to ensure CPD and compliance requirements are met;
- liaising with external solicitors;
- representing members involved in professional discipline cases before their regulators (across the United Kingdom); and
- inquests and public enquiries.

The Successful Applicant
The Successful Applicant:
- The successful candidate will be a Qualified Employment Solicitor and will have experience of liaising with courts/tribunals and other legal bodies.
- We are happy to look at Solicitors from both private practice and in-house backgrounds.
- We feel that this role would suit a candidate with at least 8 years' experience.
- Ideally you will have experience of managing people has and can demonstrate excellent leadership qualities, efficient time management, strong organisational skills and the ability to make quick decisions in relation to matters of the law and practice.
