Interviews expected to be held 18 March 2024

Salary: Grade 8 (£45,585 - £54,395 p.a. depending on experience) This role will be based on the university campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

Are you a highly skilled, delivery focused Technical Architect with experience of contributing to successful business change programmes and technical deliveries? Do you have exceptional IT systems architecture and development skills? Are you interested in supporting the delivery of the university’s digital transformation?

We are looking for an innovative Technical Architect to join IT at one of the largest universities in the UK to develop and implement systems architecture to meet business needs.

Reporting to the Head of Technical Architecture and contributing to the Technical Architecture practice of the University your primary role will be to design technical architecture solutions for project delivery. In addition, you will assist with the development of technical architecture assets and accelerators such as University non-functional requirements, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) pattern libraries and standard storage or network designs by working closely with technical IT operational teams to build and enable direct working relationships, creating a community of practice for technical architecture, establishing objectives and developing technology roadmaps. Your role is distinguished from the role of a solution architect by a focus on technical architecture elements such as compute, network, storage, hypervisor and platform software design, cloud IaaS and PaaS service design, and ensuring delivery of key technical architecture features such as availability, scalability and performance targets. You will focus less on solution architecture components such as functional software selection, but your role will not exclude such activities entirely.

You will work collaboratively with project managers, business representatives, end-users and technical teams within IT and the wider university to deliver systems that support effective and efficient business processes and align with university strategy. You will analyse functional and technical requirements, and assess current software, hardware and cloud systems in place in order to develop solutions that meet business needs. You will then go on to advise development teams in understanding the proposed technical architecture and provide assistance where necessary. You should also be able to regularly update the university’s IT governance groups on any developments in systems architecture.

If you thrive working in a complex and varied environment this is an exciting opportunity for you to make a real difference in a world class organisation.
