The goal of AFO is to empower global operators to embrace Azure connected solutions into the heart of their networks, leveraging the power, agility, and efficiency of the hyperscale cloud. We are looking for a talented UK based Software Engineering leader to lead a section of our engineering organisation – initially our Voice and AI Ops engineering teams, with potential for expanded product areas as the role evolves. The team is responsible for delivering hybrid cloud solutions which provide highly critical national voice infrastructure, and bring cloud AI enabled, big data solutions to the fingertips of network operators globally. Our Voice and AI Ops teams are predominantly based in the UK (Enfield, Cambridge and Edinburgh), though as a global organisation there are also small teams of engineers in the USA, Spain, New Zealand, and India.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Professional experience in the communications/networking industry and software engineering.
- Professional experience of large scale systems software architecture and implementation
- Experience leading teams at scale
- Experience of direct responsibility for large products/services
- Demonstrated customer obsession and the ability to take products from the vision stage to in market success
- Understanding of Cloud and distributed systems fundamentals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including experience interacting closely with executive audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience
- High enthusiasm, integrity, results-orientation, self-motivation, and resourcefulness in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong collaboration experience, ability to find win/win solutions and a proven track record of delivering success while working across organizational boundaries.
- Experience building and leading high performing software development teams
- Detail-oriented and have demonstrated operational rigor and obsession for quality
- Understanding of the Operators industry, including 3GPP and related networking technologies
Responsibilities
In this role you, in partnership with the wider AFO leadership team:
- Will help own and drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for such innovation in your development org.
- Will build and lead large global Software Engineering teams delivering a broad portfolio of products and work with the wider engineering team to deliver improvements and innovation that simplify and improve our offerings and delight customers.
- You will also work constructively across AFO and the wider Strategic Missions and Technologies team, of which AFO is a part, to enable scalable engineering approaches and deliver cohesive products to the benefit of the customer.
- You will also be an important part of Microsoft UK engineering senior leadership, with responsibility for Enfield, North London as one of Microsoft’s World Wide Engineering sites, helping to grow and develop the culture of Microsoft UK engineering.
- As a site leader you will have responsibility for leadership of the local engineering teams, creating clarity, generating energy,and delivering success for the site and driving a positive One Microsoft employee experience across engineering teams. This involves creating and executing on a site strategy with associated budget, in tandem with a site governance council, and you will extend this oversight to other AFO centric offices around the UK and the world.
