As a trust doctor working within the multidisciplinary team in the general surgery department you will experience a wide variety of cases and exciting opportunities. The spectrum of conditions that you will see produces a dynamic place of work with a wide range of General Surgery, Upper GI, Colorectal and Urology patients. This post consistently has very positive feedback from junior doctors.

There are frequent opportunities for learning and teaching. You will be allocated educational and clinical supervisors who will support your learning needs. You will also be entitled to attend weekly FY1 teaching and participate in ALS and simulation courses. The unit has weekly formal teaching and monthly governance and morbidity and mortality meetings which you would be expected to actively participate in.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Take a history and examine a patient
• Identify and synthesise problems
• Prescribe safely
• Keep an accurate and relevant medical record
• Manage time and clinical priorities effectively
• Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues
• Use evidence, guidelines and audit to benefit patient care
• Act in a professional manner at all times
• Cope with ethical and legal issues which occur during the management of patients with general medical problems
• Educate patients effectively
• Clerking patients
• Attending ward rounds
• Ward work
• Attending multidisciplinary meetings
• Assessing, stabilising and formulating management plan for unwell patients
• Attend clinics
