Job Title: Assistant Utility Surveyor
Reporting to: Principal Surveyor
Role Purpose:
To be proactive, assist and be fully engaged in the execution of all aspects of the survey. This would include the documentation, identification and recording of Utility apparatus by means of locating, marking and accurately data capturing all assets which have been located during the project.
Key Accountabilities:
- Becoming an effective member of a surveying team, to deliver all required project objectives.
- Develop the competencies required in order to learn how to undertake all required activities safely under instruction from your Team Leader.
- Demonstrate a willing and positive attitude to learning.
- Be supportive of your Team Leader, to attain his accountabilities, effectively and co-operatively.
- Assisting in the safekeeping of the Company vehicle and equipment which has been issued to you or your Team Leader, thus allowing you to perform your role efficiently and with due care and consideration.
Key Competencies:
- Be briefed prior to every site survey by your Team Leader and to comply with their instructions
- Ask questions and provide responses that demonstrate that you understand what is being asked of you.
- Take the initiative to understand all available Statutory Utility Provider Drawings (STATS) and Third Party drawings/Plans which will be used throughout the course of a survey
- Familiarise yourself with the UDRS code list, to enable essential site reporting
- Be vigilant to any issues which have prevented the expected outcome of the survey. These contributions will ultimately be added to the Site-Specific Observations, which are an essential part of all projects.
- Proactively demonstrate that you are taking on board all available information, in turn, providing yourself with the strongest opportunity to develop and progress onto the next level of your career
- Be trained and gain a CSCS basic qualification
- Work safely, especially on the public highway, being conscious of the risks and dangers from vehicular movement.
- Be vigilant for the safety of your colleagues and the general public.
- Complying with risk assessments under instruction from the Team Leader/ Project Co-Ordinator
- Ensure that all Incidents, Near Misses, Minor Accidents are reported in line with policy and procedures immediately to your Team Leader
- Develop your understanding and work within the spirit of the Company Values.
- Carryout your duties in a diligent manner, as a good team member.
- Willing to work away from home and at weekends or night shifts when required.
- If deemed potentially capable by your Line Manager, compile a personal competency development portfolio to enable assessment and re-designation as a Utility Surveyor.
- You are always expected to live the company values and follow company policies.
- Additionally, you may be expected to temporarily undertake other comparable and developmental duties within other areas of the company as and when required to do so.
- As safety is our number 1 priority, you are expected to highlight any specific areas under, Health and Safety, where there may be unexpected difficulties. Such as working conditions or equipment failures etc. to your Line Manager at the earliest opportunity.
- It is your responsibility to make sure you carry out your work in a safe manner.
- In no instance should any employee put themselves at risk. If you feel unsure as to any potential health & safety risk, then STOP, do not proceed until you have spoken to your line manager.
- A valid driving licence for use in the UK as the role will involve travel to site locations.
Preferable Skills:
- 2 years’ work experience of undertaking utility detection or experience of working in the Utility Industry
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Desire to learn and develop self and become a highly valued employee
- GNVQ qualification
- Related or similar experience
Operating Environment:
The role is predominately a field based role working from our Chelmsford office with days spent at the office as required. Night shifts and weekend shifts will be required. Travelling and working away from home will also be required.
Salary: up to £27,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Please be aware, due to the high security levels we operate at with a number of our clients, the successful candidate will be subject to DBS checks and Drug and Alcohol Testing.
