A great opportunity to join a global engineering team at Synopsys focused on the physical design of high-performance energy-efficient CPU cores together with the development and deployment of advanced methodology to support these implementations.
The CPU Physical Design Engineer will be a proven expert in the physical design of high performance, energy efficient processors at advanced silicon nodes (7/5/3nm) using the latest EDA design tools and methodologies.
Job Description - Physical design of high performance, energy efficient processors and processor-based sub-systems with very aggressive power and performance targets for a variety of end-user applications
- Development of advanced EDA tools and design methodologies to support these processor implementations.
- Close working collaboration with key Synopsys customers in their development of processor-based platforms in advanced silicon technologies using Synopsys tools and methodologies.
- Work closely with Synopsys R&D and marketing teams to help influence product definition.
- Collaboration with our key IP partners to ensure that the EDA tools, methodology and IP interact seamlessly to enable customers deliver differentiated products in a timely manner.
- Active participation in account strategy & review meetings, conducting hands-on competitive benchmarks as well as research and development of innovative solutions to the complex challenges of delivering power sensitive implementation of high-performance process sub-systems.
Job Requirements Must Have:
- BS/MS in Electronic Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of 10 years of physical design experience including a demonstrable understanding of all aspects of SoC physical design including synthesis, place and route and signoff.
- Familiarity with the algorithms at the heart of modern EDA design tools as well as the Verilog/SystemVerilog hardware design languages would be valuable.
- Working experience of low power design flows, the IEEE 1801 UPF standard and the challenges associated with implementing designs with aggressive power and performance targets.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential as is the ability to work productively when remote and within a global team environment.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Synopsys EDA tools for implementation is a big plus as is any prior experience implementing synthesisable processor IP for Arm, RISC-V and/or other processor architectures.
- Prior experience in an application engineering or another direct customer facing role will be an advantage.
