Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Library and Heritage Coordinator to join our team at the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley. As the Library and Heritage Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in the Community Development department, located in Derby.
Responsibilities include;
- Manage and oversee the operations of the library and heritage services
- Develop and implement engaging programs and activities to promote literacy, learning, and community engagement
- Curate and preserve historical collections, artefacts, and documents related to the local heritage
- Provide assistance and guidance to library visitors, including reference services, information retrieval, and reader advisory
- Collaborate with local schools, community groups, and other stakeholders to foster partnerships and support educational initiatives
- Supervise library staff and volunteers to ensure efficient day-to-day operations
- Contribute to budget planning, resource allocation, and grant applications for library development projects
- Maintain accurate records of library inventory, acquisitions, loans, and memberships
- Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and technological advancements in library management
- Adhere to relevant policies, procedures, regulations, and standards governing library services

Desired Skills and Experience
- Experience in library management and curation of heritage collections
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver community programs and events
- Strong knowledge of cataloguing systems and information retrieval tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with diverse community members
- Proven experience in project management and budgeting
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Understanding of preservation and conservation principles for historical materials
- Proficiency in digital archiving and records management
- A passion for promoting local history, culture, and heritage through innovative initiatives
- Relevant qualification in library sciences, heritage studies, or a related field
