Job description

A Leading HMC Selective Co-Educational Day School.  

Conveniently located in the heart of Kingston upon Thames, with its excellent transport links to central London by rail and road and a newly renovated, 22-acre sports grounds and boat house on the River Thames, opposite Hampton Court Palace, is the home of KGS Sport.

At KGS, Physics is taught as part of a combined Science course in the First Form (Year 7) and as a single core subject from the Second to Fifth Forms inclusive (Years 8 to 11). We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed teacher to join this excellent department.

The Physics department regularly attracts a large number of able students for A level. We frequently produce successful Oxbridge physicists and enter students to the British Physics Olympiad competition. Our aim is to ensure that practical work remains at the heart of what we do to enhance teaching and learning within the department. The successful candidate will be expected to play an important part in the teaching of Physics at all levels including Oxbridge and Olympiad Level. We welcome applications from candidates who are also able to teach Computing up to GCSE.

We also run a Junior Science Club, to which all science staff are expected to contribute.  The Physics Extensions Club and The Faraday Society (Physics and Chemistry) are available to extend and enrich the Sixth Form experience. In addition to this, every member of staff at KGS is expected to involve themselves in the co-curricular life of the school and we particularly welcome applicants who might be able to support any of the following activities STEAM, Engineering Club, CCF, Community Service or those who are prepared to assist the coaching of Hockey, Rowing, Cricket or Football.

Staff are remunerated through the Kingston Grammar School salary scale, which tracks significantly above the national scale for teachers.
