As the council’s senior Policy & Strategy officer you will work as part of the Insight, Strategy & Inclusion team, with responsibility across the following key areas:
Corporate Strategy *
Poverty Strategy
Equality Strategy
Strategy Mapping and Strategic Forward Plan *
Horizon Scanning, Policy Intelligence & Projects *
Your day-to-day work will involve supporting the Head of Insight, Strategy & Inclusion to develop and deliver a strategic planning function comprising the three aspects marked * above: mapping strategies; developing new strategies; leading development of a strategic planning framework; developing the horizon scanning approach; providing advice to managers on key strategies, their development and implementation; and providing a policy resource to support other key projects required by the Chief Executive and Corporate Leadership Team. You will research trends and the work of other local and national authorities in order to craft strategies and campaigns that deliver meaningful results and improvements for our customers.
The role has line management responsibility for a policy & strategy officer and has a key role in delivering the Council’s Corporate Plan as well as living and demonstrating its core values and behaviours.
At its core, the purpose of this role is to enhance the Council’s strategy so that it is both fit for purpose in meeting the needs of our customers (our residents), putting them at the heart of what we do and ensuring that the Council leadership and Executive can make informed and timely decisions to enhance or change its strategic direction as the needs of our environment or our customers change and evolve.
