Job description
To work in a wide range of care settings including hospital in-patient and outpatient services, community hospitals and other care settings where required 7 days a week. To be accessible during working hours via mobile phone and Hot Foot Line to provide specialist advice and support to clinical and medical personnel and answer queries regarding patient treatment. To organise, prioritise and manage caseload for Diabetic patients to meet service needs with clinical knowledge and training in the Diabetic Foot regularly reassessing and reviewing Work within the framework of professional codes of conduct and clinical governance to maintain and improve patient care quality. Act as a clinical specialist podiatrist in the field of diabetes. Be clinically accountable to the Senior Podiatrist and assist and undertake duties as delegated / requested by the Senior Podiatrist. To work autonomously e.g. single-handed without supervision within defined areas, demonstrating effective time and self-management. Staff are encouraged and expected to seek professional advice from colleagues as required. To assess and screen diabetic patients using the diabetic foot assessment screening tool, ensuring copies issued to appropriate members of the multi-professional team, such as patients GP and practice nurse. Provide specialised health care advice and treatment based on results of assessment and risk categorisation. Work flexibly, for example when required due to leave or sickness in colleagues. To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up-to-date documentation in line professional code of conduct. To be able to balance patient related and professional demand Provide education and support to ward teams for patients with at-risk feet. To work in close relationship with the Tissue Viability Nurses, OPAT Nurses and Vascular Specialist Nurses within East Lancashire Health Economy Ensure effective communications are maintained with other healthcare professionals.
