The BBA is looking to hire an In-House Counsel to join our legal department. This role will be based from our Watford Office, located at Croxley Park.

About You

Role Purpose

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the In-House Counsel will be responsible for establishing and recruiting the first legal function in the Company.

The In-House Counsel will ensure the Company has correct legal protection in all aspects of its business, establish and develop appropriate policies and procedures covering the legal demands of the Company and advise on a wide range of legal matters to the Senior Leadership Team and the Board including contracts, regulatory compliance, litigation, employment law, intellectual property and corporate governance.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on matters relevant to the organisation in order to minimise any current legal exposure and liability, advising and directing the company to ensure it is compliant with the applicable legislation and regulations taking into account any forthcoming known strategies for the future. Provide advice and support to the business in negotiating contracts and contractual issues – establish and maintain corporate templates for such documents (but not limited to) as standard contracts and NDA’s to be used by the business. Provide advice on different legal issues and assist in drafting legal opinions, memoranda, and other briefing documents.

• Manage and resolve third party legal disputes and suggest ways to improve existing processes. Undertake a review of existing contracts and suggest and enact ways to mitigate any risk. Provide support for insurance renewals, interpretations and claims – own and manage the insurance carrier relationships.

• Select, manage and liaise with external legal advisers and stakeholders on behalf of the company. Provide legal assistance in all matters of litigations, dispute resolution, and guide the business on taking appropriate decisions/actions. Undertake a review of the various contractual documents and suggest and enact ways to consolidate and simplify the contract templates.

• To oversee the company secretariat duties of the BBA – note the company secretary will be a member of the legal team. Manage and oversee the BBA property footprint. Assist with any ad hoc projects where required.
