Job overview

This is a key role in the communications and engagement team at CUH. Working alongside the Director of Communications and Engagement, Heads of News, Digital and Internal Communications and the Head of External Affairs, you will coordinate business planning and oversee all aspects of financial management for the team.

 

Main duties of the job

The Communications Business Manager will ensure that the communications team can deliver effective and timely communications to support the needs of the Trust. This includes internal and external communications, patient-facing communications and the delivery of objectives for the Trust’s major projects programme, Addenbrooke’s 3.

You will lead on multiple projects simultaneously and provide strong business leadership to the team.  You will ensure that the communications team is effectively managed and compliant with all relevant Trust policies and procedures.

This role includes line management of the communications assistant.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Educated to degree level or equivalent.

Desirable criteria

A good understanding of the changing NHS environment.

Experience

Essential criteria

Proven experience in a senior administrative position, preferably within the NHS.

Practical experience of managing projects and working in a large, complex organisation.

Experience of managing or monitoring a budget.

Desirable criteria

Experience of working in a communications or marketing team.

Experience of editing/proof-reading.

Experience of staff supervision.

Experience of organising events.

Experience of desktop publishing.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Sound political judgement and astuteness in understanding and working with complex policy and diverse interest groups.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software.

Ability to design and set up office administrative systems.

Desirable criteria

Understanding of and respect for the importance of patient confidentiality.

Understanding of the structure of and issues within the NHS.

Skills

Essential criteria

Strong administrative/management skills including effective communication, team working and negotiation skills.

Ability to collaborate constructively with internal and external partners to create the conditions for successful partnership working.

Ability to analyse complex problems and to develop practical and workable solutions.

Leadership skills.

Excellent written and oral communications skills, with strong attention to detail.

Ability to work to tight deadlines and within resources, and to prioritise own workload effectively.

Friendly out-going manner, able to work with staff at all levels.

Available to work out of hours on occasion, as appropriate.
