Job description

If you want to make a positive impact for people in Gosport you can help by ensuring the local Citizens Advice is sustainable and meeting the needs of the community. Citizens Advice Gosport is seeking additional trustees to join the board.

What will you be doing?

We are a charity that supports residents of Gosport by providing free, confidential and impartial advice through a team of paid and highly trained volunteer staff. On average we help over 3,700 people each year and last year obtained £3.1m on behalf of clients. The trustee board, working with and supporting the Chief Officer, sets strategy, develops the Business Plan and monitors performance. We are looking to recruit trustees with experience of managing, whether in business, the public sector or in a charity. Roles can be tailored to suit your interests. At the moment we would particular like to hear from people with experience of human resource, public relations, finance, marketing and making grant applications. As part of our succession planning we are also currently looking for people to become Vice-Chair and Treasurer The trustee board meets monthly in the early evening – once per quarter in person and online in the other two months. Depending on your role and interests there may also be subcommittee or project meetings which are arranged at times to suit the attendees. Appropriate training will be provided tailored to the needs of each individual. Come and join us and make a positive impact. What are we looking for?

We are looking to recruit additional trustees with experience of managing, whether a business, charity or people. We are also looking for people with experience of public relations, information technology, marketing and grant applications.

●       Understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities as trustees

●       Be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own

●       Have good listening, verbal and written communication skills

●       Be able to exercise good independent judgment

●       Have good numeracy skills to understand accounts with the support of the treasurer

●       Be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection

●       Be willing to undertake training in your role
