Head of Legal and Insurance Services
Location
Walsall, West Midlands | United Kingdom
Job description
This is a brand new role at whg. This is a great opportunity to be responsible for leading and further developing our brilliant and high performing Legal and Insurance Teams.
So who would this role suit?
We are looking for somebody who is passionate about leading others and inspiring high performance.
We are looking for a leader who will be excited by the opportunities and challenges that this new position will present. Somebody who can lead our team but also come with ideas to help improve, develop and shape our in-house services.
You will report into the Director of Governance and Legal who will be on hand to give you guidance and support.
We will give you lots of hands-on responsibilities including line management of three senior managers. They will come to you for guidance and mentorship and you will form a pivotal part of their professional development and growth.
There will also be lots of opportunity for you to support and engage with different parts of whg. You will be in regular dialogue with the Senior Management Team, the Group Executive, Boards and Committees.
It would be great if you had experience working within the social housing sector but we would also love to hear from leaders from other sectors such as law firms or professional services firms.
It would be desirable that you have experience using a case management system and even better if you have been involved in system improvements. We currently use ALB and are in the process of developing it to meet all our requirements.
You will: - Lead and further develop a highly effective and responsive in-house legal service, providing advice, guidance, support and timely action to teams across the business, particularly in relation to housing (e.g. possession and injunction cases and disrepair) and property law.
- Lead a high performing in-house insurance and claims service, ensuring appropriate insurance policies are in place to mitigate risk to whg and provide cover for customers. That team investigates and defends claims brought against whg whilst providing support to customers to resolve property issues.
- Keep abreast of external developments and emerging issues and advise on the relevance of and impact for whg. Implement robust processes, working with subject matter experts across the business, to ensure whg's compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and sector standards. You will also provide advice and guidance to colleagues on developments in case law and new legislation.
- Work collaboratively with key areas of the business to develop and deliver training to colleagues on landlord and tenant matters, increasing understanding of relevant legislation and regulation to ensure legally compliant service delivery.
- Develop and implement a system of quality peer file reviews with appropriate due diligence. Work towards securing a legal practice quality mark or standard, with associated audits, ensuring excellent client care, compliance and practice management.
- Develop reports providing performance and statistical information, analysing trends and identifying and addressing any areas for service improvement. Demonstrate the effectiveness and achievements of the service, including contribution to whg's value for money reporting.
- Set and monitor budgets ensuring cost effective services, and seek overall reduction in whg's expenditure on claim settlements to maximise value for money.
- Oversee the adoption and utilisation of technology, software and other innovative solutions to ensure effective case management, streamlined processes, improved efficiency, and enhanced services, ensuring continuous improvement and innovation.
