Job description

The Azure Fiber team in Romsey is seeking a methodical and dependable candidate with energy and a passion for innovation to join our team. You will be part of our team at a state-of-the-art facility in Romsey, UK, focused on advanced manufacturing equipment for hollow core fiber (HCF). Your role involves working with the latest fabrication technologies to develop and automate processes for HCF production, including glass preform creation and optical fiber drawing. This hands-on position requires collaboration with Engineering, Production, and R&D teams to implement innovative monitoring techniques and scale up reliable manufacturing processes for HCF.

You'll have access to the latest OpenAI GPT models and artificial intelligence (AI) frameworks to enhance process innovation and efficiency. Your expertise will directly contribute to pioneering the future of hollow core fiber technology, leveraging cutting-edge AI tools to tackle complex challenges and drive progress in fiber manufacturing.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND some years of technical engineering experience
  • OR Master's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND a few of technical engineering experience
  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, OR related field AND several years of technical engineering experience
  • OR Master's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, OR related field AND some years of technical engineering experience
  • OR Doctorate degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, OR related field AND a few years of technical engineering experience
  • OR equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• You'll design unique and innovative optical components or systems, understanding the limits of manufacturing technologies. You'll also use software to model and analyze how these systems perform in specific aspects, with little help needed.
• You'll invent new ways to test these products automatically and run these tests on parts of the product that are somewhat complex.
• You'll write detailed test plans using standard formats and methods to check if the designs meet requirements.
• When you find complex problems that could change the design of a feature or product, you'll figure out the root cause, think of possible fixes, and discuss them with other engineers or your team leader.
• You'll look for ways to make projects run smoother by solving problems early and deciding on design choices, like balancing performance against reliability or manufacturing issues.
• You'll analyze data to suggest improvements to current processes or to create new processes that your team can use.
• At the start of a project, you'll identify possible project risks, like delays from suppliers, missing information, or tool problems, and come up with plans to handle these risks.
