Position Information Parramatta High School, established in 1913, is a co-educational partially selective secondary school located in the city of Parramatta. The school has an enrolment of 1300 students. The community is multicultural with an ethnic composition of 96% from a non-English speaking background and less than 1% are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. The predominant languages, apart from English, are Hindi, Tamil, Mandarin and Cantonese with a high percentage supported by four non-English speaking background staff and one STLA staff. The school has approximately 80.7 teaching staff and 12.5 Support Staff including 1.0 SLSO. The school receives funding for Refugee Student Support and Integration Funding. The school funds equity programs such as Multi Lit. Academic Improvement Programs which are school funded include Edrolo, Education Perfect, Elevate and Clickview. Parramatta High School is a partially selective high school and has a culture of high expectations. Our vision is to ensure that all students successfully transition through each stage of their learning through explicit and differentiated teaching. We are committed to implementing department priorities such as the High Potential and Gifted Education policy and reaching system targets in reading, numeracy, attendance and the HSC through teacher collaboration, professional learning and instructional leadership. The school has a range of Quality Teaching programs that support learning in the classroom and recognise student diversity. The staff is skilled in and apply the Quality Teaching model and ‘What Works Best’ to enhance best practice. All staff are trained in GERRIC (Gifted and Talented). Strong student learning and Positive Education Wellbeing programs are provided across all stages. Development of Student Leadership is essential to the school ethos, with programs such as Students Representative Council, Social Justice League, leading to increased leadership capacity and civic and citizenship awareness amongst our students. Specific Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach Business Studies and Commerce. Willingness to teach Geography.
2. Demonstrated ability to provide engaging and challenging differentiated programs to meet diverse student learning and wellbeing needs, including the needs of high potential and gifted students and students needing additional support.
3. Demonstrated knowledge and application of ICT and future focused pedagogies in effective classroom practice.
4. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively and contribute to a dynamic faculty, whole school, and the wider school community.
5. Demonstrated capacity to cater for the needs of students from culturally and linguistically varied backgrounds.
