Location: Leighton Buzzard - based in Billington Road with travel between sites in Leighton Buzzard
Hours: Monday to Friday
This position is a key role within the Finance Department & also the wider business. As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing daily finance operations, looking to make improvements to existing procedures and controls, and working closely with the Financial Director, including working on ad hoc projects or duties as needed.

Key Duties & responsibilities:
- Taking full ownership of month end reporting process, ensuring output is delivered within 8 working days of month end with the aim to reduce timelines
- Completing monthly balance sheet accounts reconciliations for all key accounts and quarterly for minor accounts
- Completing analytical reviews of all expense codes and identifying any exceptional costs
- Preparing monthly profit and loss reports for each department & site, including variance analysis and providing explanations
- Discussing monthly profit and loss reports with site and department managers – explaining financial results to the non-financial managers.
- Submitting daily, weekly and monthly reports to the bank for Invoice Discounting purposes
- Producing monthly open book labour invoices for storage sites
- Producing weekly profit and loss accounts for each warehouse site. Investigating and identifying any action as and when required.
- Reconciling the weekly reports to the monthly management accounts
- Reviewing daily bank reconciliations & purchase ledger postings
- Reviewing and authorising any large and unusual sales credit notes
- Reviewing and approving supplier payment runs and processing bank payments
- Providing cover for purchase ledger and bank transaction processing
- Overseeing credit control
- Provision of cover to review weekly and monthly payroll in the absence of the Financial Director and HR Manager
- Providing cover for payroll processing in the absence of the HR Manager and Payroll Administrator
- Maintaining accounting records of the group companies
- Preparing, reconciling and submitting VAT returns for all group companies
- Ensuring all tax submissions and payments are processed accurately and within prescribed deadlines
- Collating and controlling information for annual audit file and half yearly bank audit file as well as liaising with auditors and providing any required information via Inflo and bank portal
- Working closely with various managers of the business and providing analysis to support decision making
- Providing information to support costing and tender submissions
- Managing and developing the Finance Team
- Working with the Financial Director to improve processes and controls
- Assisting FD in annual budget process

What we would like from you:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or Qualified by experience
- Strong technical accounting knowledge is essential
- Excel and modelling to advance level is essential
- Experience of annual audit processes and producing management accounts is required
- Ability to delegate to and manage workload of others
- Experience of Accounts Payable and Receivable essential
- Experience of payroll desirable
- SAGE accounting and SAGE Payroll experience is an advantage
