Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours
This opening assignment is for 2 months
City: IPSWICH
2 Days a week in office and remainder WFH
Reporting to the Head of Planning, the postholder will manage a team and take the lead on a wide range of issues related to the county council’s roles in the planning system. This includes the council’s own minerals and waste local plan, the interaction of the council’s services with district and borough council local plans and securing infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
To manage the forward planning work of the County Council, in particular to manage the work of:
• The Senior Planning and Growth Officer and Planning Officer in:
o Monitoring and keeping under review the Minerals and Waste Local Plan
o Formulating responses to Local and Neighbourhood Plans and major planning applications (excluding NSIPs)
• The Senior Planning and Infrastructure Officer and Planning Officer in aligning the delivery of infrastructure through Local Plans, the Community Infrastructure Levy and section 106
Ensure that in carrying out the responsibilities of the post the County Council complies with its statutory Duty to Cooperate.
Provide the strategic planning input to the preparation of Local Plans (and other associated documents) by the District/Borough/Parish Councils in a manner which reflects the corporate priorities of the Council.
Attend local plan examinations and planning inquiries.
To liaise with other teams and directorates to assist in the delivery of Suffolk-wide strategies and other corporate priorities.

Qualifications:
Post-graduate degree in planning from an institution recognised by the Royal Town Planning Institute
Chartered Town Planner
Knowledge:
Up to date knowledge and expertise in planning policy and case law
Broad understanding of the legal, technical and political framework within which planning policy formulation operates.
Experience:
Experience of working effectively in a political environment
Experience of dealing with complex and contentious proposals and of preparing reports for committees and/or inquiries
Experience of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders and partners to develop shared solutions to complex problems.
Experience of giving evidence at public inquiries or hearings or preparing written representations.
Experience of working on the delivery of environmental, housing or economic development projects and assembling resources to enable delivery.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
Able to communicate effectively with diverse and challenging audiences.
Ability to undertake negotiations and influence decisions.
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
