CONTRACT :  FIXED TERM - FOR A PERIOD OF 12 MONTHS - SECONDMENT OPPORTUNITY  

Torfaen County Borough Council is looking to appoint an energetic Community Environment Officer to work in partnership with a wide range of community groups and sports clubs.

The successful candidate will help manage the Councils sports facilities and roundabout sponsorship scheme, and will oversee the coordination of environmental volunteering and support the planning, design and implementation of community based projects for multiple benefits (e.g. health, economy, climate change and biodiversity) within the context of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) and Environment (Wales) Act.

The post will be a fixed term contract (37 hrs a week) for 12 months and a secondment from an existing role within the Council will be considered.

Qualifications / Experience:

Essential

• Knowledge of issues confronting a Local Authority in terms of the development and implementation of environmental improvement projects.
• Understanding of planning and procurement processes.
• Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in delivering environmental improvement projects with communities,
• Financial Management experience of budgets, grant applications and maximising income generation opportunities.
• Ability to liaise/work with a range of clients: Council services, outside bodies, elected Members and the general public.

Desirable

• Educated to Degree Level (or equivalent) in an appropriate environmental or community development discipline.
• Recognised project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE 2).
• Contract preparation and management experience.
