2. Job Purpose To provide a clinical psychology service for adults with a learning disability as part of the Neurodevelopmental Service (NdS). To work within professional guidelines and service policies; providing psychological and diagnostic assessment, post diagnostic support, therapy, advice and consultation to service users, their families and other services and organisations within the local health and social care system. To work across the Royal Boroughs of Kingston upon Thames and Richmond upon Thames in a variety of settings, including clinic locations, service users homes, education and day services. To be able to respond quickly and flexibly to the demands and pressures created by the clinical work. To maintain the highest standard of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self governance in accordance with professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society, The Health and Care Professions Council and Your Healthcare policies and procedures. 3. Dimensions The role of the Adult Learning Disability Service is to provide assessment, diagnosis and specialist healthcare and psychotherapeutic support to adults over the age of 18 years. 4. Key Result Areas Clinical To undertake specialist diagnostic assessments with adults where a learning disability is suspected. This includes those with additional neurodevelopmental conditions, mental health difficulties and additional complex needs. To provide a range of diagnostic reports in line with best practice for the service user. This includes, but is not limited to; individual diagnostic reports, summary, highlight and/or easy read reports, recommendations for reasonable adjustments for work or educational settings. To provide interventions directly and indirectly to service users, couples, families and groups, including group work for service users and important others using a variety of psychological models. To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options, taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models, historical developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family, group or system. To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions in order to promote and support services which are sustainable, consistent and long-term. To provide advice, education, information and consultation on the impact of a learning disability on the person, therapeutic interventions and best practice for families, carers, professionals and others involved in the provision of community and specialist services. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual service users as required and to provide advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management for people with a learning disability. To communicate in a highly skilled, sensitive and timely manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans for service users and to monitor and evaluate progress during the course of both uni- and multi-disciplinary involvement. To provide expert specialist advice to staff and agencies outside the Psychological Service regarding service users psychological care as required. To maintain the highest standard of clinical record keeping including; electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self governance in accordance with professional codes of practice. Teaching, training and supervision To provide specialist advice, consultation and training for staff working with people with a learning disability across a range of services, organisations and settings as appropriate. To receive regular supervision from a senior clinical psychologist. To contribute to peer supervision and reflective practice discussions. Policy and Service development To participate in the development of a high quality, responsive and accessible service for service users, their families and carers within the Adult Learning Disability Service, including advising the team leads on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing. To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the services clinical pathways and innovation, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit. Research and service evaluation To utilise theory, academic literature and research to support evidence-based practice in all aspects of clinical work. To undertake research, audit and service evaluations under supervision and with colleagues within the service to develop and improve service quality, using quantitative and/or qualitative methods as appropriate.
