The role
As Finance Manager you will oversee and manage the financial health of a growing digital content company with employees worldwide, ensuring compliance with all external reporting requirements (eg, taxes, HMRC, etc), working within small finance team of five.
You will be an integral part of the business support unit, which includes the HR and Office Admin teams, collectively overseen by the Chief Finance Officer. This is a key day-to-day operational finance role, that reports to, and works closely with the Financial Controller working to provide invaluable insights on the company performance to our internal stakeholders.
It is envisaged that this is a full-time hybrid-working role (minimum of 2 days office based).
Snapshot of the role:
- Oversee the credit control function
- Oversee the day-to-day bookkeeping, including bank reconciliations
- Routine online banking tasks such as supplier payment runs, payment approvals, funds transfers, cashflow management
- Processing of monthly UK payroll, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislation, including full liaison with HMRC and the Pensions provider.
- Primary contact for our external provider managing foreign payroll, and other foreign taxes (US based employees)
- Manage the preparation, submission and payment of quarterly VAT returns
- Delivery of monthly management accounts in a timely manner, including variance reporting against budgets
- Complete monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations
- Ensure that company financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future growth
- Assisting the Financial Controller with other adhoc tasks throughout the year such as assisting with the year-end audit, completion of ONS forms, and assisting with the collation of annual financial budgets
- Reviewing monthly deferred income calculations, ensuring revenue is recognized in line with accounting policy
- Assist with preparation of annual forecasts and budgets
Skills and Experience:
- Management accounting and transactional finance experience, ideally from within an SME environment
- Commercially astute, articulate, technically strong, dynamic, with an enquiring mind and a passion for excellence
- Intermediate to advanced level Excel skills
- A hands-on approach, positive and flexible attitude with an ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines
- The tenacity to deliver a professional service and be able to recommend improvements to processes and reports; does not accept the status quo
Essential:
- Experience of working in a fast paced environment
- Experience of working with foreign currencies
- Experience of processing payroll using Sage 50 Payroll
- Experience of end-to-end management accounts preparations
- Tech savvy: previous experience working with cloud-based bookkeeping systems, working towards utilising all efficiencies available in the software
Desirable:
- Experience of working with Xero
- Experience of line management
- Experience of working in private equity
- Experience of working in a publishing / marketing industry
- Experience of implementing complimentary cloud-based apps to improve systems and processes (ie, Pleo expenses app)
- Experience of working for an SME
- Experience of deferred income; revenue recognition of services over periods of time
Qualifications:
Desirable :
- Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA/CA), but we will consider candidates qualified AAT or QBE
