Principal Child and Adolescent Mental Health Practitioner

Carelink is a CAMHS multi-disciplinary team providing specialist assessment and treatment for looked after and adopted children & young people aged 0-18 years. The team is based at the Lister Health Centre in Peckham and provides regular training placements for psychotherapists and psychologists, and opportunities for training placements for clinicians from other disciplines. This is an experienced team who hold ‘going the extra mile’ as a central tenet to their work with highly vulnerable young people and their carers.

This post holder will ensure service quality through their clinical leadership, their clinical assessments knowledge/practice and their use of theories to improve evidence based practice. This post holder will provide skilled clinical judgements in the service clinical work. This post holder will lead in providing specialist therapy, supporting and supervising others. The post holder will participate in service leadership and actively lead on implementation of service priorities.

Southwark CAMHS is very committed to training and continuing professional development and provides both in house training opportunities and support for external training based on clinical need.

This is full-time role. Two part-time applicants who are willing to work as job share are welcome to apply for this job opportunity as well.

'CareLink is a long established team, the post holder will work alongside senior clinicians in the MDT to offer collaborative leadership within a skilled MDT

To ensure service quality through clinical leadership, breadth of clinical knowledge and skilled practice in clinical assessments and interventions with looked after and adopted children and adolescents.

To provide, consistently, skilled clinical judgements in clinical work with own patients and for those of other staff in the service.

To take a lead role in providing a highly specialist Therapy and supporting training and supervising others using this modality

To participate in the leadership of the service through working closely with senior colleagues to supervise staff and implement new ways of working using best practice and NICE guidelines.

To jointly lead on service developments as required across the Service and where appropriate present these new initiatives at interagency and national workshops and conferences.

To provide professional leadership to peers and junior

The post holder will provide senior clinical input to Southwark CAMHS referral team

This post-holder will be based in CareLink and will be job planned to provide leadership and management to wider service priorities which would mean working across/in other Southwark CAMHS teams. Hence, flexibility to work across different Southwark CAMHS teams is essential.

About Us:Carelink is a very welcoming service based on the first floor of a Health clinic and a 10 minute walk from the Peckham town centre. The team is well established, with a very strong work ethic and commitment to engaging with young people in whatever ways work best. There is excellent support for clinicians, both with joint work around assessments and opportunities for discussion within team meeting and through 1:1 supervision. The Southwark CAMHS generic services are currently based at Mapother House on the Maudsley site. located at Denmark Hill less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2) and is within walking distance from the beautiful green spaces of Ruskin park and the vibrant high-street that offers great shopping opportunities and with a wide range of restaurants.

Clinical Service Responsibility• With other senior colleagues and in partnership with the service manager and Consultant psychotherapist, provide leadership within the Carelink service deliver and maintain the quality of clinical care through effective multi- professional practice and integrated interagency work.
• Share the responsibility for managing risk within this clinical area.Ensure that all risks are managed in accordance with good practice, CAMHS Directorate and Trust Guidance, polices and procedures.
• Explore, introduce and evaluate new clinical systems to improve the clinical performance of the service using performance management data to identify successes and challenges.
• Quality assure, through regular audits, that appropriate evidence-based practice is in use and that appropriate care pathways are available from referral to discharge for all patients in the service and that patient outcome measures are analysed and regularly reported on.
• Identify and develop the clinical skills of staff working in the service through case and practice supervision in general and specialist CAMHS assessments, care plans and treatment modalities. Address areas where errors are likely to occur and take preventative measures to minimise these.
• Provide consistently skilled clinical judgements on patients seen by other staff in the service and provide formal consultation and advice to senior professionals in other agencies on clinical matters.
• Employ advanced skills and when needed take a lead on the provision of a specific treatment modality Therapy within the service and be a resource to the whole service in maintaining the skills of others across treatment modalities.

Clinical Individual Responsibility• Assume responsibility for own case list and case management of children, adolescents and families
• Where needed, provide second opinions on cases held by colleagues and contribute professional clinical judgements to assessments led by other
• Provide largely specialist, but also standard CAMHS clinical and risk assessments and diagnose the mental disorder and/or cause of emotional and behavioural problems in children and young people. Ensure that care plans and care pathways directly follow from the standard and specialist CAMHS assessment.
• Employ advanced clinical skills to deliver appropriate evidence-based interventions in more than one modality applying NICE guidelines in conjunction with the best CAMHS clinical practice.
• Value the contribution of carers and other professionals to enhance their skills to reinforce treatment and increase the resilience factors in their children.
• Provide reports for referrers, families and other agencies for children and young people under your care, this will include 'witness of fact' court reports when required.
• Ensure safeguarding issues are managed for own cases and provide second opinion clinical advice to colleagues on referring concerns to and jointly managing cases held within Child Protection Teams.
• Maintain good working relationships and clear lines of communication with all colleagues, professionals, agencies and departments. Seek professional links on clinical practice matters across the directorate and where appropriate, with clinicians in other Trusts.
Healthcare Governance Responsibilities• To work with senior colleagues and managers to critically evaluate and monitor own and others performance in delivering the clinical service, using performance information.
• To take responsibility for one or more aspects of clinical governance across the Ensure that audits are conducted and that information gathered is used to implement local service improvements.

Continuing Professional Development and Professional Regulation• Maintain own CPD to meet the KSF dimensions, levels and indicators attached to this post and produce evidence of achievement at appraisal and appraisal reviews
• Use advanced skills in two or more clinical modalities and maintain clinical skills to practice across the range of evidence-based interventions which are generally considered effective for the particular client group.
• To contribute to the CPD of colleagues and junior staff through appraisal and appraisal reviews.
• To contribute to the implementation and monitoring of practice development which ensures that CAMHS practice is evidence-based and supports the service plan objectives and progresses the Directorate and Trust's strategic
