Job description


This is an exciting opportunity for a Community Paediatric Consultant to join our integrated Children and Young Peoples Service. We are offering an up to 10 PA post to work within the Buckinghamshire Community Paediatric team. We have a strongly supportive multi-disciplinary team comprising psychologists, pharmacists, nurses, GPs, medical registrars, specialist doctor and and consultants. The team is looking creatively at how to offer services to our children and families into the future and is developing its MDT clinic approach.

Working with the new leadership and management team the role offers opportunities for the successful candidate to introduce innovative ideas to help shape the community paediatric services in Buckinghamshire as well as developing interests in the Children and Young People services. The post holder will be encouraged to maximise their leadership potential to take on leadership roles both within the service and across the trust.

We are looking for applicants with varied experience.

There is a dedicated leadership training programme in the trust for development of new consultants with a strong ethos around coaching and mentoring.

The successful candidate will be appointed as a Consultant Community Paediatrician, joining our team of 4 consultants delivering integrated paediatric care in Buckinghamshire.

There is no on call component in this role

The vacancy has risen following the move of a colleague due to personal and family reasons. You will join the existing team of Community Paediatricians to deliver community paediatric services to the children and families covered by the ICB in Buckinghamshire. Any special interest to complement the team would be welcome.

The Community Paediatricians in North of the county are currently based in the offices at Rayners Hedge, Croft Road in Aylesbury. The Community Paediatricians in the South are based in the offices at Wycombe Hospital and at Haleacre Unit in Amersham. The children and young people services – physio and occupational therapists, health visiting teams, school nurses, safeguarding nursing team, child health are also based in Amersham.

The admin support team is based at Haleacre Unit in Amersham and works across the county. This is a comprehensive team which is integral to the smooth running of the service.

The Community Paediatric team includes GPs with an interest in community paediatrics, a team of psychologists and a community pharmacy team. In addition we have nursing input from the school nursing team to undertake measurements in school for children on medication. A strong administration team offers excellent support.

The community paediatric team is commissioned to see children under 5 years of age for neurodevelopmental assessment. Children 5 years of age and over are assessed through the neighbouring CAMHS service.
