Job description

YHA Whitby are looking to recruit a Catering Team Member for 25-42.5 hours per week.

Perched on the East Cliff overlooking the town of Whitby and right next to Whitby Abbey our site is a busy one! We welcome thousands of school children every year and to ensure they have a great trip we want to make sure they have the best food provision possible. We also have a busy cafe open to the public daily offering a wide range of meals. Our kitchen team work a variety of shifts covering the kitchen opening period of 7.30am to 9pm and up to 5 of 7 days a week including weekends.

What will you be doing as a Catering Team Member?

Our Catering Team Members take on a variety of customer-facing responsibilities throughout the hostel, ensuring a fantastic experience for all guests and visitors at YHA.

While this role primarily focuses on the catering aspects of our hostel, you may also be called upon to assist in other hostel departments. Here are some of the areas you might contribute to:

What Skills and Experience are Valued in a Catering Team Member?

While prior experience in a customer-facing role is advantageous, it's not a strict requirement for our Catering Team Members. Experience** in hospitality or customer service is desirable but not essential.

Strong communication skills are an asset, and punctuality is of the essence.

**We place great value on real-life experience, just as much as skills and knowledge. We provide a comprehensive induction, continuous training, and further development opportunities. While not mandatory, having experience in volunteering or collaborating with others is advantageous.
