About The Role
The Port of Leith specialises in handling cargoes such as aggregates, grains, animal feed, steel, recycled products together with general and break bulk cargoes. We also have a large number of seasonal cruise liner visits spanning each year.
We also service Oil & Gas support vessels and we look forward to playing a key role in the developing renewables industry.
As Operations Manager you will have responsibility for ensuring that a safe and cost effective service is provided for the loading and discharge of cargoes along with the organisation of our warehousing activity. Reporting to the Asset Manager, the role of Operations Manager is pivotal to the operational success of the Port of Leith.
Some of your main responsibilities will include:
Promote a positive and safe workplace culture.
Manage all port operations safely, efficiently and within budget whilst providing our customers with a quality service.
Plan work activity to ensure that the requisite skilled resource, plant and equipment are all available for each task.
Lead the Operations team to deliver the best service possible. Ensure the team has a good blend of skills and experience.
Drive a continuous improvement approach by designing key metrics for each cargo, analysing performance using our IT systems to establish where improvements can be made.
Manage costs in line with budget.
Assist the Asset Manager with developing the service provision for our customers and developing new business opportunities.
Meet with our key stakeholders, customers and shipping agents regularly to review our service provision.
Manage 3rd party accreditation schemes.
What are we looking for?
Strong experience in a similar Operations Management role with the capability to lead, motivate and manage a team.
Detailed knowledge of operational systems and customer requirements with a mind-set which fosters a ‘can do’ approach to customer service.
Ability to prioritise work tasks in an often changing port environment whilst demonstrating a positive attitude and the flexibility to be able to meet these challenges.
Good commercial experience and strong business acumen.
Excellent planning, communication and analytical skills.
Ideally educated to degree standard.
Good IT skills with a sound practical knowledge of using Excel and MS Suite.
Experience of working in a unionised environment would also be advantageous.
Full UK driving license.
