POSITION SUMMARY:
The quality engineer is responsible for driving improvement and proactively tackling areas requiring development. They are responsible for project managing the transfer of parts between suppliers and New Product Development, including the part approval process and validation testing. It is a proactive role in the maintenance and development of supply base capability and conformance with the relevant standards, certifications and conformance required to achieve business requirements, with some exposure to customer quality issues. They play a key role in promoting a quality culture both internally and across our supply base.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Investigate operational problems affecting the production line and deal with them in a systematic, methodical manner with managers, engineers and operators
- Flawless execution of all supplier related projects including transfers, specification changes and improvement plans
- Identify and manage any necessary improvement plans with the focus on driving a reduction in PPM performance
- Develop and maintain an internal audit process to ensure process conformity and effectiveness as per standard requirements
- Undertake testing when conducting thorough investigations, including compilation of technical reports
- Compile the necessary documentation to ensure approval to supply products to customers
- Implement a robust corrective action process and ensure that timely and effective action is taken on all issues
- Drive continuous improvement processes within the above systems
- Develop the process to record Cost of Poor Quality generated at the business, with the ability to quickly determine causes of waste generation
- Ensure that suppliers are fully engaged in the New Product Development process; ensure full capability and understanding during the knowledge transfer process, supplemented by audits as required
- Maintenance and administration of systems used to document issues and drive business improvement, such as registers and QMS
- Work with Purchasing to ensure Packaging requirements are satisfactory for supplied parts
- Management of Quality Technician and Inspector to ensure responsibilities are performed to a high standard, to meet departmental requirements, and with development plans in place
- Health, Safety and Environmental duties – all employees have the duty to ensure the health safety and welfare of themselves, others and the environment
EXPERTISE REQUIRED:
- Engineering background – mechanical or electrical preferable
- New Product Introduction process knowledge
- Ideally would look for experience of a process-based quality systems and the maintenance and auditing of ISO:9001
- Demonstrable working knowledge of problem solving and continuous improvement tools and techniques
- Experience of working in a cross-functional team-based environment, a drive for results
- Experience and understanding of quality tools - FMEA, Control Plans, SPC etc
- Knowledge of statistical tools used to understand process capability
- Experience of using Faro-Arm measurement equipment desirable
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The post holder should be qualified to a minimum HND level (or equivalent) with a high degree of computer literacy.
