Job description
Working hours day shift:
6.00am-2.00pm Monday – Friday, but flexibility is Key and Overtime when required.
Relationships:
Reports to: Production Manager
Colleague Team: All production/packing operatives, QC personnel, Warehouse personnel, Mixing personnel, Admin staff.
Other internal contacts: Directors, various levels of management within the Company, other members of staff within functional roles.
External contacts: Equipment and packaging suppliers, customer auditors, agency staff.
Summary Statement
Operate safely and effectively packing equipment and machinery, maximising machine efficiency, minimising wastage, to produce product meeting Company quality standards.
Key Duties:
Operating packing machines
Operate packing machinery and equipment in a safe and effective manner to produce packaged product conforming to quality specifications and food safety laws.
Product Quality
Ensure products meet quality standards for bag forming, weight control, metal detection, palletisation, and shrink-wrapping requirements. Ensure that the correct Date Codes and BBE codes are used.
Problem Solving
Make adjustments to the line as necessary to ensure product consistency and to maximise line efficiency. Report major faults to the Managing Director without undue delay.
Production Recording
Complete all relevant production records and ensure that they are left in the designated area.
Staff supervision
Ensure packing staff work effectively and pack product correctly. Keep packing staff informed of line performance and production plan.
Cleaning
Ensure packing equipment is cleaned as required by cleaning procedures. Ensure cleaning is recorded using relevant documentation.
Hygiene and Housekeeping
Maintain the packing line area to a high level of good housekeeping and hygiene. Ensure that the work area follows storage rules for packaging, WIP, finished pallets and cleaning materials.
Training
Assist in the training of new staff as required.
Health & Safety
To satisfy the legal requirements by being responsible for your own and your colleagues’ Health and Safety
Knowledge, Skills and abilities:
1. Knowledge of the safe operation of packing machinery and equipment.
2. Ability to work on own initiative and to use problem-solving skills.
3. Numerate/Literate
4. To be proactive in operations at all times.
5. Effective communication and motivation skills.
