We have an exciting opportunity for an Head of Policy and Public Affairs to join our team based in Chingford London.
Location: Gilwell Park. Chingford, London (1-2 days a week hybrid working)
Salary: £54,287 per annum – Band H (Inclusive of Outer London Weighting)
Term: Permanent
Working Hours: 35 hours per week

The Head of Policy and Public Affairs Role:
The Marketing and Fundraising team is fast moving, but we always make time to check in on each other and celebrate our successes. From creating award-winning content for social media, to arranging visits between Scouts and the Prime Minister, to championing young unsung heroes, we love telling inspiring stories about the skills for life.
You'll lead a high performing policy and public affairs function, develop high profile campaigns and deliver strong behind-the scenes-lobbying to further the reach and impact of Scouting across the UK. You'll support the work of the Chief Executive securing policy changes to enhance Scouting as well as helping secure additional Government funding, in addition to managing all policy and public affairs needs.
Key responsibilities as our Head of Policy and Public Affairs:
Responsible for the creation, leadership, management and delivery, of strategies to:
Support the work of the Chief Executive in securing policy changes to enhance Scouts and securing additional Government funding through high-level meetings with the most senior figures in Government and the Civil Service.
Ensure the highest quality of public affairs leadership for staff and volunteers, including regular intelligence and distribution, briefing and speech preparation and supporting colleagues to record and communicate our interactions with decision-makers and external organisations, with a particular focus on parliamentary and partner or sector activity.
Advance and protect the interests of the Scouts, locally and nationally, through high-quality public affairs leadership (including consultation responses, campaign planning, events delivery and local capacity building) with a particular focus on parliamentary and partner or sector activity.
What we are looking for in our Head of Policy and Public Affairs:
You’re a a senior public affairs practitioner with a strong track record of influencing change in previous roles, using youroutstanding networking and communications skills.
You’re highly motivated and a team player, able to take the lead in managing some issues and external relationships, while providing briefings and support to senior colleagues on others.
